Ears and Sleep
Auriculartherapy is a part of Chinese acupuncture system. Its therapeutic effect has been well documented in China and in Europe. The whole ear is mapped to represent different parts of the body. By stimulating the points on the ear, you achieve therapeutic effects on the corresponding parts of the body.
Take a look at your ear in the mirror. Do you see that little flabby part above your ear lobe? It’s called the anti tragus. That’s the part of the ear representing the brain. By massaging this part of your ear, you are “massaging” your brain to help it function optimally.
Here is what you can do to sleep better:
- Stop stimulating activities one hour before going to bed: no TV, no stimulating reading, no loud music.
- When it’s bedtime, lie in bed comfortably with light off and eyes closed. Use your thumb and index finger to squeeze the anti tragus gently (the flabby part of your ear above your ear lobe) and massage it from bottom part to the tip (away from the ear lobe). At the same time, breath deeply.
- After you do this for several minutes, you may feel your ears get hot. Stop massaging but still breath deeply for another 10 minutes…
- If you you are still awake after ten minutes of deep breathing, repeat the above steps.
